ReportOUT Annual Review
ReportOUT’s Annual Review sets out in detail everything that we have achieved since our founding in October 2019!
Across all of our teams, from Human Rights Researchers to Campaign Officers to Media and Communications Officers, our dedicated volunteers have worked incredibly hard to further our mission – to research, monitor and document the lived experiences of sexual and gender minorities in every nation state – and have achieved a huge amount in such a short amount of time.
“As a small charity, we have seen excellent growth and have achieved this through joining networks, building up partnerships and having a clear strategy of where we want to be.”
Drew Dalton, Chair of Trustees
As well as growing as an organisation to a team of 32 brilliant volunteers and publishing our first major piece of research, our ‘OUT in Uganda’ report, we have:
launched 3 major campaigns about minority sexual and gender human rights abuses;
hosted 7 events on the experiences of sexual and gender minorities around the world, with over 600 attendees in total;
recorded 20 ‘Hidden Voices’ podcasts, each from a different nation state, about sexual and gender minorities;
formed partnerships with 12 organisations on a range of different projects;
founded the first ReportOUT student societies at universities across the U.K.
implemented a ‘Pride in Volunteers’ programme, to offer additional training and skills to our volunteers;
appointed a team of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions for ReportOUT, helping us to align our human rights research with a sustainable international development agenda.
Our work to document the lived experiences of SOGIESC people around the world has been recognised in amazing ways: as well as securing a high-profile publication in the Gay Times and receiving great results in our Charity Excellence Framework assessment for the year, we were shortlisted for two awards at the 2020 North East LGBT Awards, in the ‘Charity and Community Initiative’ and ‘Inspirational Leader’ categories!
“If you have considered supporting a Human Rights organisation with a clear purpose, I strongly recommend that you join and support ReportOUT.”
Rvd. Jide Macaulay, Patron of ReportOUT
We also have so many great plans for the future. From April 2021, we will be beginning our next two major research projects, focusing on the lived experiences sexual and gender minority Ethiopians and Moroccans, as well as continuing to host events, strengthening our volunteer team with more training and beginning broad new initiatives such as our ‘Listening Post’ and ‘OutAcademy’ projects.
As we move forward with these plans, we would like to thank all of our amazing patrons, trustees, volunteers and supporters: it is thanks to you that we have survived such difficult times with such levels of success, and with your support we’re looking forward to growing bigger and better in the future!
“I am proud to be a part of the ReportOUT family, knowing that the research we do is making a different to SOGIESC lives.”
Caitlin, Human Rights Researcher
